Sustainability and Renewable Energy at UWA
The University of Western Australia is participating in the Greenhouse Challege Program run by the Australian Greenhouse Office. This program encourages the use of energy efficient technology in industry and business.
The Alternative Technology Association WA will have a renewable energy display with solar panels, exercise bike and wind turbine generators made using recycled Fisher and Paykel washing machine motors and biodiesel batching equipment.

The University of Western Australia through the Office of Facilities Management is actively involved in the program and has implemented and continues to explore technologies for improving energy efficiency and renewable energy on campus. Initiatives have been taken in the following areas:
- Energy efficient lighting
- Air conditioning systems
- Heat storage systems
- Cogenergation plant
- Solar power
- Waste recycling and reduction programs
